Simple question: What is a hero?
In order to be a hero what qualities does it take? Can they be real or fake? Does it matter? Can a hero exist in reality or are these people just lucky cowards? Ultimately, what is your definition of a hero in fifty words?
Greg King
ReplyDeleteA hero is a person who society as a whole appreciates for the deed(s) they have done to the world. This society could be a little as a house, to which a family is better of for a mother's sacrifice of time and commitment to balance the budget and pay the bills. On the other hand, this society could be quite large, as in the world, as shown in movies such as The Core and Armageddon.
IMO a hero is someone that people can look up to, they don't have to do great deeds, but do what they feel is right, they do not always need to be recognized to be a hero either, hence the phrase "unsung hero". People have so many definitions of what a hero is, but if you can't look up to them, are they really a hero?
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Lowery
ReplyDeleteA hero is a person that someone can look up to. A hero can be anyone, a soldier, a parent, or the mailman. It doesnt matter what you do or who you are. Anyone can be a hero because anyone van be very important to someone.
Andrew Delwiche
ReplyDeleteA hero by definition is A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life. Therefore it could be anyone from you or me to a celebrity. There are also other forms of hero's as well such as ones who are fictional such as Hercules, and others.
Thamytra Smith
ReplyDeleteThe qualities are you need to be a balance of regular life or awesome life. Whether its from putting a criminal in jail or using x-ray vision on a woman, you need to constantly keep your Clark Kent reading glasses on. There are real life heroes such as a teacher, family member, doctor, etc. that can change the world without superpowers.

A hero doesn't have to be real or fake. Most superheroes are made up, but they still make a difference in the minds of kids everywhere. A hero could be anywhere between batman and superman, friefighters and cops. People choose their heroes because they are pulled in by something. Real or not, heroes aren't just tight abs and awesome superpowers; it seems like they always know what's right for who they serve.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, a hero is someone who makes the best with what they are given and inspires others to do the same. Whether they overcame great disparities and hardships in their life, or they excelled in their craft despite the hurdles they faced, what truly ascends one to heroism is the people they inspire. For example, musicians such as Dave Mustaine, who had a troubled childhood, got kicked out of Metallica due to alcoholism, and later struggled with drug addiction, inspire many young musicians with not only their talent, but with their power to rebound. He is now a clean, born-again Christian with a family and a highly successful metal band, Megadeth. He was even able to compose what is considered by many the greatest thrash album of all time, Rust in Peace. Many kids find in music a salvation from their troubled youth. To provide a successful figure for these children, who face similar hardships as they once did, makes musicians and other masters of craft true heroes.

ReplyDeleteMy definition of a hero is someone who stands up for what they believe in and are people who set a good example. Hero's don't have to be fake. There can be ordinary people who are heros like vigilantes (like the group Shmira) or cops, firemen, and of course paramedics, who save people who are at the brink of death.

In my eyes, a hero is someone who has morals and care for others. Heros should show that they have a heart towards human kind because if they didn't, then they wouldn't have to save anyone. For example, on 9/11 many fire fighters risked their lives to save the victims and some died in the process. This shows that they cared enough to risk their own life for a human being they may or may not know. Morals also have a play in it as well. A hero should not do anything tht is frowned upon in society. It makes them more like a villan.

ReplyDeleteA hero is someone who stands up for what they think is right or wrong no matter what others say to them. When they are face to face with troubles they would stand strong and fight through it to the end. Giving up would never an option to them.
As a side note, who ever pulls/drives over to help a mother change their car tire is an absolute hero as well to me in my book.

ReplyDeleteMy idea of a hero is basically the same as every one elses. A hero is a person who helps some one else whehter they be a friend or a complete stranger. But a true hero is some one who has nothing, and nothing to gain from helping you but does it anyways. That is my idea of a true hero, but unfortunately there aren't any of them left. In my mind heroes are the few people you can really count on to be there for you when you really need it.

ReplyDeleteIt takes many qualities to be a hero obviously. You NEED x-ray vision and super strength or you are no hero at all. I am a hero and I am not fake at all, I am very real. Heroes (such as myself) are not "lucky cowards" that's some doo doo. Molly Roz.. now that is what you call a lucky coward.. she is not so lucky though mostly just a cowardly dog.

ReplyDeleteA hero is that of what is interpreted by its watcher; can be anyone or even anything. A hero is serviced with a purpose by nature and fate, in which by the viewer may see to anything the hero does as heroic. This may include watching over-such as God, or even parents, they may protect (or defend, as they do in fairytales), they show nobility, or exploits outstanding qualities. Their achievements are examined by their audience to who sees them as a hero and may also be regarded as ideal or model. It is legend that strength and courage may be our childhood ideal hero (Superman, Spiderman, Batman...later come the females: wonder woman, to those who remember sailor moon and what have you). A hero can be real or fake, as for a coward- what do you think, they face the inevitable to escape their personal life, so are they? They live a double life, so...? ReplyDeleteok i never done this before but this is a thingy i have to do for my english class in high school
my topic is what i think is a good super hero that has to be atleast 50 words long and im all most done this is what i think makes a superhero is someone male or female that has a very very very very very very unqie gift that is used for good and the gift can be anything thing from superspeed tp flying or being super smart or just being brave everyday people can be superheros like cops or firefighter even down to sports players and the regular people that you see everyday thats what i think makes a good superhero and thats my blog and hopefully i get a good grade on this so this is got to be 50words and if not then ill add on some extra stuff and some more stuff like what im doing righte TADOW boom shock alock ca ok ok ok ok ok thats 50 words and im done so now its time to save this and post so my fellow classmate can tell what a good job i did
In my opinion a hero is a hero when someone recognizes that they are a hero. I think just about everyone can be a hero as long as someone says that they are. A hero is someone who has made (a) good action(s) which please at least one person. Another example of a hero is someone who has been threw at lot (lots of hard times) but still is able to manage everything. And so if someone notices that they might say there my hero because I probably couldn’t have done what they did. So then they could come to the conclusion they are my hero for that. Back to the “good actions hero” they would have done something that impresses someone or helped someone in there most desperate hour or maybe just when they needed a hand. And so then the person experiences the “good actions” might come to the conclusion that they (whoever it my be or what ever it may be) are my hero

ReplyDeleteA hero has to be real!!You cant just make one up! They have to do something awesome like save some people or kill a bad guy! Spider man and batman are heros, they're definately not lucky cowards. The hulk is not a hero, he is just really big and turns green and crushes stuff, if anyone is a lucky coward its him!
the hulk=not a hero
Batman and spiderman=HEROS!
sorry i think i spelled heroes wrong :)
ReplyDeleteIn order to be a hero, I think you need confidence. Courage and confidence make people heros because it makes people look up to you. I think a hero can exist in reality. If it werent for the heroes of our everyday life we wouldnt be the people that we are. Your hero inspires you to be better so it could be a celebrity, your mom, or your favorite teacher. Heroes make the world keep turning..

ReplyDeleteThey say that, at the peak of showing courage, you are scared out of your mind on the inside, but you choose to face that fear anyways. To stand up for what's right, for what you believe in, takes such bravery. What's right depends on the individual, but the general morals are similar. Upholding them, and having the honesty, kindness, strength, intellignce, and perseverence is what a hero is to me in the fictional sense. Good looks help too, apparently. (lol)
Real-life heroes exist, too. They may not seem as "perfect" or have the powers/abilities like comic books and other epic tales describe, but they are good in their own light. Their strength is on the inside, where their hearts and souls are. That is what's most important, regardless of how little or large their deeds are.
Anyone that can stand up for himself/herself without fear, will never give up even if death stares them in the face, and are willing aid others in a positive light is someone I can easily admire as a hero.
Kyle Samilton
ReplyDeleteMy deffinition of a hero is basically anyone. Anyone and everyone can be a hero. All it takes I believe is to do whats morally right. When people think of heros they usally think of Batman or Superman, but what about the everyday heros. I know my family members are heros to me everyday. Soldiers in Iraq and soldiers stationed all throught the world can be someones hero. Or just by helping an elderly person with what would seem as an average everyday chore can make you a hero. So I think anyone can be a hero and everyone at one time in there life will be one.
Someone who is not necessarily the best at anything but is trustworthy, loyal, honest, and caring. Someone who is noticed not by who they are associated with or how much money they have, but by doing things in society. the things they do are not done for aknowledgement, but because it could possibly be helpfull somehow, somewhere. This is what a hero is. Yes, I do believe that heros can and do exsist. I also believe that they can be real or fake because children believe in Batman and Spider-Man when they are only characters.

ReplyDeleteA hero isn't someone in tights and a cape, a hero is a person who is brave and confident no matter what. A hero can't be lame and lack confidence because without that they are just an everyday loser who is all talk. A hero in my eyes will folow what they believe no matter what everyone else may say. So i think that it would take a very strong person to be a hero.
Tina Spedden
ReplyDeleteI believe that a hero is FAKE! There isnt one hero in this world! You feel me?!? Yes there are some people who do amazing things but that doesnt make them a hero. Here is the story of how a hero is made. One night some loser kid was all alone because he didnt have any friends ( he had really bad odor) decided to make up someone who would always be there. He showed it to this other loser and then that loser showed another loser and then that loser showed another loser and it became HUGE. Now out of the blue comes a man with a dream to be famous, so he takes the super hero idea and shows it to a cartoon guy. Then they make a few cartoons,Bonda Bing Bonda Boom, its a big hit! Thats how a hero is made. Thats my story and im stickin' to it :)
Samantha Gray
ReplyDeleteI personally do not find the people on television and in movies to be real heroes. As much as everything they do is amazing. They have all the freakish powers and they are always saving people, but these people don't exist. They are fictional characters that, if in a time of dire need, could not be there to save me. They are seen as fearless creature that can do almost anything. To me a hero is an average person who works to do extraordinary things.
MOLLY ROZRAN
ReplyDeleteA hero can have a variety of different meanings because there are a variety of different people with different opinions in this world. I think that no matter what you think makes a hero, either way, a hero has the same meaning and impact on a person. A hero is always someone that you can look up too and mimic to make yourself a better person. As long as the person has made a positive impact on a person, i think that makes the qualities of a hero.
Emma Anderson
ReplyDeleteI think a hero can be a made-up character, because they help the people in that made up world. Joe from the Solomon's Volunteer Fire Department probably isn't going to save Townsville, but the Powerpuff Girls will.

ReplyDeleteA hero is a person that does a positive action and is someone that people can look up to. Police men, firemen, and the armed forces are all examples. Police men stop crooks in your neighborhood, firemen save people from burning buildings, and the armed forces protect the USA from outside threats. And they all have one thing in common: courage, which is something all heroes have.

ReplyDeleteTo answer the question given I thought I would write a short story to give a background of a hero....
Once upon a time a creature related to the Tyrannosaurus-Rex, in theory, gave its soul to the devil on the date of August 2, 5000 BC. There was one reason for this, he wanted to live forever.
All of his friends envied him because he always knew what was going on, and always knew the correct answer to pretty much any question that you asked him. The only thing he truly didn’t know is why everyone has to die eventually. This drove him crazy, so he decided that he wanted to go ‘explore’ to find the answer.
He went far, far away to places that nobody he lived with would dare enter. They were gross and had things living in it that could possibly kill him. He was ok with that though because he knew that it would be worth it if he found out why his friends couldn’t live forever.
One day, he came upon a man beatin’ some rocks together making some pretty good sounding noise. It drew the creature to the man like the creature didn’t have a choice. This man was in fact, the Devil.
The creature was amazed by his abilities to make wonderful sounding noise. So he figured that he must know the answer to his question. He later asked and right after that the devil knew he had his first customer ever. He told the creature that he can make him live forever as long as he says, ‘I give you my soul.’
Not knowing how badly mistaken he was going to be soon, he said it and his whole world changed. Due to the fact that he wanted to live forever, the Devil only made it so that he would live forever in memory. The Devil waited for the creature to return home and tell all of his so called friends how he found out that the secret of life and not dieing is very simple … Before he could finish, he tackled all of his friends out of the way and was then struck by a meteor. His friends remembered him forever, and his story was passed down through all generations.
So, obviously this hero is slightly fake and the only qualities they need are to give thier life for anyone and to help thier friends out anytime possible, even if it is dangerous. His legacy will then be remembered.

ReplyDeleteA hero doesnt have to be fictional. There are heros in our world today. You may not think they are but in reality they are heros in other peoples minds. For example, A Fireman. He doesnt have any super human powers that gives him super strength or super speed, but he does have is a job that protects people. I mean there not always on national news because they saved a person but they are out saving people from a fire. Anyone can be a hero even without powers. Thats not what a hero should be all about.
Eric Spindler.
ReplyDeleteAnyone can be a hero if they choose. They can just do simple things to help people out everyday and that person will respect them and see them as a hero. Now if you looking for a super hero you should run down to the corner comic store, or should i say graphic novel store. Super heros well they have to be super, none of this crap where they have lame super powers. You have to be able to fly or do something really cool. Most xmen have good powers, but the guy with the needles that come out of him....wtf no one likes that crap he sure wont be getting a girl anytime soon.. you never know what would happen if things got heated up.

ReplyDeleteA hero doesnt have to be fictional he can be real just not have superpowers like the comic books. Policemen and women protect us from danger and enforce the law for us to follow. A hero is someone that is willing to sacrifice anything to bring down a tyrant. All heroes must have a villain, heroes like Superman and Batman, the villains are actual people. On the other hand, heroes such as firefighters, their villain is danger and fire. A hero needs something worth fighting for, if a hero fights just for pleasure, he/she is no hero at all, but more of a tyrant.
Lindsay Crum
ReplyDeleteA hero to me isn't always someone with super powers. A hero can be just be like you and me. It can be someone your look up to who may do things like a "super hero" but i mean really, who has super powers? Although being a super hero is what alot of people would love to be, we have commen heros at home. Our military, Police officers, Firefighters, Etc. Save our lives without those powers. Anyone can be a hero, even if it's just a simple good deed.

A hero doesn't necessarily have to have super powers but just a person that does extraordinary things, & they are admired for the good deeds they do. A person that when their faced with a problem they show courage & bravery. A hero could show courage useing strength or intelligence or anything they have that makes them more unique than others.
A hero is a person with a cause and is willing to do anything for that cause. A hero is always working toward the better good even when the odds are against them. They know right from wrong and always do their best. Heroes can be anyone who wants to make the world a better place. Just because you don’t have super powers doesn’t mean you can’t help a person overcome their problems.
ReplyDeleteA hero doesn’t necessarily have to have super powers. I believe a hero can be anyone willing to fight for a purpose but without wanting something in return like fame or fortune. It is someone able to rise above their obstacles and take down their goals. Or maybe a hero could even be someone just trying their hardest.

ReplyDeleteA hero to me is someone who does something that can help someone else or someone who is a sort of role model to someone. A hero can really be anybody. we all love spiderman and hulk and all the other fictional characters with crazy powers out there and thats great but thats not all the being a hero is about. you can be a regular person and be a hero to somebody. you dont have to be human by day and superhero by night and save the world from all danger. thats just not real. someone wno cares about people enough to go out there and help someone in any way could be a hero. its all up to you.
a hero to me can be someone that has super powers and is normal by day and only comes out at night. someone that goes out to save the town from all the villains and saves all the people. but i also believe that a hero can be a normal person. for example i think that the firefighters that saved the people in 9-11 are heroes. they risked their lives to save someone else. a hero just has to be someone that does what they can to help. nothing amazing just doing their best to help out.

ReplyDeleteTo me a hero would be an individual that does certain tasks without being told to or expecting a reward. A hero does things for the good of other people not for publicity, or for his OR her personal gain. A hero can be anyone doing something for the good of others whether it be someone we seee everyday like a fireman fo to something we don't see like an average person helping an elderly across da street.

ReplyDeleteTo me a hero is someone you can look at and be amazed by. Not just if they do something that betters the world but what they do for a single person that they dont even know. I think someone who can inspire a person and make them think about the unobvious is a hero. Someone who can help another person discover who they really are or help them find what their heart has been longing to tell their mind for the longest time but couldn't find the words to say. A hero could be anyone, not just someone innocent and perfect, but someone with imperfections who isn't scared of what the world might think. That's a hero.

A hero is someone or something that helps others when they don't need to. Some people are called heroes for saving others when its part of their job, if their just doing your job then they should be helping people. A hero has to come out of their normal lives and help people. Such as Spiderman or Superman, they both have super powers that they could just keep to themselves, but they choose to save people.

ReplyDeleteI believe a hero is somebody who has a lot of cool super powers, mainly being able to fly and having heat vision. If you can't find anybody like that, normal people can be heroes too. Anybody you look up to and can count on can be a hero. As long as they make a positive impact on lives, I consider them to be heroes.
I believe a hero is someone who makes a difference in the world, they need no special powers although that is cool if they have them, but they have to protect people or help others. ReplyDeleteThere are numerous definitions of a hero. A hero can be someone that puts their life at risk for the expense of others. You dont have to be superman or have blonde hair, blue eyes, incredible strength, and extremely good looks to be a hero. You just have to help others and be there for people. There is something that sets heroes apart from the rest of us, but its not a quality that cant v=be achieved. Batman wasnt born a hero, the experiences in his childhood turned him into batman.
A hero goes out and does his job without complaining. He or she may not like what has to be done, but will do it to the best of their ability. I dont believe a hero thinks about his or her actions. Before they act, they aren't thinking about how they are going to be remembered or what's going to happen afterwards. They do what they do because they knows it's the right thing to do.

My definition of a hero is basically a person who follows the army core values: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. It's someone that goes out of their way, no matter the circumstances, to get the job done and to help other people. But they never take credit for it. The real heroes are the ones that are everyday people that do small things that make big differences in people's lives.

A hero is someone that is willing to put things on the line for others around them. I don't believe that a hero has to have any super powers, but it is freakin' sweet if they do! I mean take NigthCrawler from the X-men, (who isn't a MINOR character mr. price)even regarding his past he has dropped all that just to help all the rest of his fellow mutants who feel that they are out of place, such as he did. So when i think of a hero, i think of someone who will do what ever it takes to help someone else, wether it be someone they care about or a complete stranger. You don't need to have a "S" on you chest, or a spider, or metal claws that come out of your knuckles to be a hero. Stand up for the people that need it, don't just do it to be on the cover of a Marvel Comic. ^_^ That is my definition of a hero.

A hero would be someone to stand up and fight for those who can't do such for themselves. They tend to look at the world as a whole and tries to keep an equalibrium, or rebels against a system to preserve our human rights. As the one to stand up, they try to keep us safe from harm. A hero can be someone in any place, its usually a person that nobody ever suspects to do something about people. The hero is the one that tries to not push others around whatsoever. In this case, Darkhorse comics is a sufficient genre to see these views.
SWARTS: i believe a hero is a human, animal, alien, or machine with a heart that is willing to sacrafice them selves for the betterment of the society, planet, or what ever that it is willing to protect. a hero is also someone or something that is willing to stay disuised to create less problems for there society because it can creat more problems then a hero can fix
